Iqaluit will welcome the new year 2025 with fireworks.
The flashes and bangs will brighten up the city at midnight on New Year’s Eve from the deepsea port, the city announced Friday.
The annual event will be led by Michael Salomonie, manager of community relations for Baffinland Iron Mines Corp. Salomonie has been Iqaluit’s holiday pyrotechnics expert for the past several years.
The city recommends that residents walk to viewing locations “to ease traffic congestion,” and asks people not to block access to the port or causeway with vehicles.
If the sky is clear on Tuesday night, the 2025 New Year’s Eve celebration will coincide with bright northern lights that will be visible across Canada, according to the Space Weather Prediction Centre.
