Iqaluit’s Chase the Ace winners announced

John Nguyen, pictured here, and three others who work together in IT for the Government of Nunavut, have won a total of $208,042 through a fundraising campaign by Iqaluit’s Inuksuk High School called Chase the Ace. The draw took place Thursday, June 27 at the high school. Nguyen, along with is teammates Karri Gillis, Olu Esho and Joseph Eze, will split the prize four ways, making it about $52,000 each. Nguyen said he had bought about 40 tickets in total, which sold for $10 each. The money raised from Chase the Ace will help send 22 Inuksuk students to the South Pacific and a U-18 soccer team from Iqaluit to the U.K. for a tournament and training opportunity. Nguyen said he’s not sure what he’ll do with the money, but said he will “sleep on it for now.” (Photo by Emma Tranter)
