Iqalummiut fill out online survey on racism
Iqaluit residents Baidir Bangoura, left, and Kareen Thompson fill out a survey launched by Nunavut Black History Society Friday, at Astro Theatre. The survey asks respondents to share their experiences with racism in the territory. The society encourages all Nunavummiut to take the survey, which is available through the organization’s Facebook page. (Photo by Daron Letts)

Good to see the black residents of Iqaluit given an opportunity to share their experiences with racism in Nunavut. Few groups are treated so poorly and with such open hostility anf racism by Inuit as them.
Caucasions are met with disdain also.
and how!
Something Inuit have experienced far too but is apparently acceptable to those who come to Nunavut
If there are results published, I would like to see how many respondents replied and what background they have. If this an opportunity for one culture to respond, it will not reflect on the city itself. How many inuit responded? If there were one survey for Inuit, im sure there would be alot of respondents. I am an NLCA beneficiary, I am culturally sensitive, but I have had “condescending comments” in my direction from some races. This survey should be allowed to be completed by everyone. Even if you don’t have a phone. The photo attached to the story may be misleading…as there are no Inuit in the picture….
I agree with your comment. think we can be assured it will be one sided.
In the “Black and “White” world of racism, Inuit are not considered as having to deal with racism.
I thought we were done with hierarchies of oppression?
I agree, everyone should be included, otherwise you are just doing a sanitized form of racism.
Did any of you go residential school
Or have your children taken
How about the 60’s scoop
How about truth and reconciliation still waiting
I have nothing to reconcile and refuse to be associated with something neither i nor my family had anything to do with. Do not deny the schools happened, however, the rhetoric around the truth is troublesome. Fyi, i spent a good deal of my professional life working in humanitarian aid and human rights.
