Issigaitok captures Quest crown

IQALUIT — The 700-kilometre Nunavut Quest dogsled race ended last week with an Arctic Bay resident taking first place.

Winning the nine-day race between Hall Beach and Arctic Bay was Jobie Issigaitok, who also took first in the Quest last year and the year before.

Second place went to Paul Quviq Maliki of Repulse Bay, third was captured by Sam Omik of Pond Inlet, and Panoelee Okango of Pond Inlet took fourth.

For his win, Issigaitok was awarded $10,000. Maliki won $5,000, Omik got $2,500 and Okango got $1,500.

Next year’s Quest will begin in Clyde River and end in Pond Inlet. The dates of the race have not yet been determined.
