The 530-kilometre Ivakkak dogsled race from Akulivik to Quaqtaq has been postponed due to poor weather conditions.
Originally scheduled to begin Monday, organizers from Makivvik said on Facebook the start could be pushed to Wednesday or Thursday.
This is the 24th year for the race. Eleven teams kicked off last year’s race, with one dropping out midway. The team of Charlie Angnatuk and Zachariah Saunders won the race after travelling the 328-kilometre course from Kangiqsualujjuaq to Tasiujaq.
The number of teams expected to hit the trail this year has not yet been disclosed.

The length and location of the race is ridiculous 🦮🐕🦮🐕————🛷 Teams most likely will not see Quaqtaq and helicopter 🚁 rides for dogs is a waste of resources. 🤑
You don’t seem to know husky dogs and dog team handling. It takes professionals to run in this event, professionals like any other skill knowledge ppl who ply their trades/sports.
Check bet99.ca for the odds of husky fatalities and team dropouts at -300. The terrain, distance, very little support and isolation will be astronomical factors in a route chosen only to highlight Pingualuit Crater.🤑
You just jealous cuz you can’t do anything physical like this in your life. Lol🤭
Go teams go! And that’s my saunik in picture feeding his dogs last year in Kuujjuaq!!
Hey, I was really hoping to see you in Ivakkak this year!! are you thinking of joining next time?
Hi najatsaapik, im sorry i let many down, I’ve had bad experiences in the past with this race so this year was my choice not to compete, taking care of dogs is still my daily routine tho! Just not in competition mode at moment. When my instinct say let’s go we will go! Go teams go!! 🙂
Hey, don’t be sorry at all ❤️ I understand. You’ve always been strong with your dogs and that won’t change. You’re still doing the real work every day with your dogs 💪 When your instinct says go, we’ll all be cheering extra loud for you 😄When the time feels right, you’ll be back out there. Proud of you either way.
GO TEAMS GO! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
