Judge rules complainant’s testimony not credible

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

A 41-year-old Iqaluit man was found not guilty of assaulting his wife this week.

Justice Beverley Browne said the complaint’s conflicting testimony resulted in the acquittal on Sept. 11.

The woman initially told police her spouse had tried to choke her. She recanted her story under oath and said he’d pushed her to the ground.

“I’m not sure what series of events is true and that damages her credibility,” Browne said.
