Justice committee members resign
Almost all the members of Iqaluit council’s adult justice committee have stepped down. Three of the four residents who sit on the committee resigned this week.
The justice committee works on restorative justice and prevention programs in Iqaluit.
Members have struggled in the past year and a half with too many cases and not enough money or people to work on them.
Doug Lem, one of the committee members, told city council this week he and two other members are resigning. “We never had enough resources,” Lem said at the May 28 council meeting.
Elisapee Davidee, the only member who is staying on the committee, will now try to rebuild the adult justice committee.
