Kitikmeot scores big in literacy contest
Students from Gjoa Haven and Kugluktuk placed among the top entrants in this year’s “Write to Read” competition, held during Nunavut Literacy Week, Oct. 3 to 9.
Kathy Keknek won a first prize for her “Gjoa Haven rocks!” essay and Natalie Porter, also from Gjoa Haven, won second prize, for “Gjoa Haven is the Best.”
Alexander Ohokak from Kugluktuk won third prize for his essay, while Andrew Atatahak, writing about “Out on the Land,” and Carmen Aviak who wrote “Welcome to Kugluktuk, Nunavut” also received special mention.
