KRG signs deal wireless broadband deal
The Kativik Regional Government and Inukshuk Internet Inc. announced last week that Inukshuk will set up a broadband wireless access network for Nunavik.
Joe Lance, director of KRG’s administration department, said wireless technology will allow users to roam in all villages in Nunavik and eventually all over Canada.
“This is state-of-the-art equipment and truly non-line-of-sight,” Lance said.
Customers in Nunavik will receive a wireless modem, which can be used in their community and, eventually, anywhere a similar network is up and running.
The system’s wireless technology has already been used in the NWT and Nunavut.
“Evaluation in Kuujjuaq since last month exceeds expectations,” Lance said.
The site survey has been made in all other villages and installation of the equipment will start in mid-August, with one day per village required.
The KRG is still looking for local Internet service providers to make the connection to private customers.
