The Kativik Regional Police Force has seized 69 grams of cannabis that it says was destined for illegal resale in Kangiqsualujjuaq.

The KRPF said in a news release on Wednesday, April 29, that it found the cannabis in an air cargo parcel from Kuujjuaq.

Two people were arrested. “Both may face criminal charges under the Cannabis Act,” the KRPF said in its news release.

“The KRPF would like to remind Nunavimmiut that the only place to legally buy cannabis in Quebec is from the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC). It is illegal to buy cannabis from anywhere or anyone else.”

The KRPF says that any information concerning suspicious activities, including the illegal sale of drugs and alcohol, can be disclosed anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-711-1800. Information received may qualify for a reward of up to $2,000.

Must be slow policing days in Nunavik if a $250 drug bust is newsworthy…lol

Why make cannabis legal if people are going to be continuously arrested for “untaxed cannabis’? Why was it even legal and regulated in the first place? Is it so you can get paid while selling an inferior product, while at the same time arresting the competition?

Is it legal to give away weed. How do they know that the pot was not legally purchased and repackaged to give to a friend. And is it not time to quit wasting the courts valuable time on such petty nonsense. And to publish un news wow, thanks for saving us public from such devistating crime. The tax man thanks you

Giving it away free is also not legal.

Perhaps this just shows that police should take preventative measures and teach whats legal and elegal more rather than just locking people up and puting pictures of their proud accomplishments in a news paper. Maybe theirs just as much pride keeping people out of jail as there is locking them up

And further more because kuujjuaq is quebec as they state it is ellegal to purchase cannabis from anywhere else other than the province in wich they’re in yet they are still nunavut then where does that leave iqaluit. Do i need a permit to purchase and ship from one province to another seems we have no retail suppliers. And are you saying that all nunavuimmiut including iqaluit can only buy from quebec

            • Posted by Northener on

I wont buy anything from a province that cant put their signs in french, english and inuktitut like the rest of canada

You are allowed to grow 4 plants and you are allowed to give it away for free. This is a waste of time and resources for 69 grams!

Thanks mike i thought i was going to have to keep going on an on before someone got my point. P.s judge judy for president!!

Giving it away is considered trafficking, therefore it is illegal.

Got a big old beef with those they are always saying and doing as by what’s allowed. Allow to do this , not allowed to do that. I live my life the way I see fit, respect to others , got all I want in booze , my cannabis, I’m not the least concerned about allowed.

False. Gifting marijuana under 30 grams if totally legal. It must be purchased through the SQDC and have original packaging with receipt and given the age restrictions, must be of 21 years or older.. for it to be legal.

Please tell me how a person in Nunavik can order weed? From where? For those that cannot go down south to the legal outlets? Knowing this info can help stop the illegal sellers and buyers! That would be prevention, so teach prevention!

If I live in Nunavik, I live in Nunavik. I got to order everything from the south. The south got to order nothing from the north. It’s not the south’s fault that I don’t live in the south.. but live in the north. If I don’t have access to something and it’s bothering me in my life, I should move to where the stuff is. When one area depends on another area to get their fix or their materials it’s trouble. Look at all the mask that the United States want to keep for themselves, Canada just got to learn to produce mask. Same for you with you booze and dope. Depend on others and you’ll be disappointed at some point.

I don’t care, as I think lots of residents feel too, dont care how little or how big, just get them krpf. If it’s not legal to do what krpf done, then see you in court , you dope pushing idiots. Why worry about the 69 grams if it’s not suppose to be taken away. You’ll get it back, but betting you won’t because there’s more to it then meets the eye,

If snitches are to remain anonymous…how the hell do they receive $2000 in reward money? Empty promises KRPF!

  7. Posted by It’s the trouble on

The reasons are simple, why it’s difficult to get alcohol, and legal cannabis in the north, in Nunavik. It’s because there’s too much trouble in the good times. There’s nothing but trouble. No one wants to make it available. There’s no motivation to do that. Yes we all know that it comes by illegal if not available legally, but it’s the trouble makers that have created a culture of abuse and trouble. The next time you’re finding it hard to comprehend why Nunavik doesn’t grow into a nice legal place of sale like the rest of Canada, just look at the idiot that you are seeing going off in a police car , riding to jail, to court.

Yes, just ask who’s locked up in st Jerome or Amos? Like how many reasons are locked up, thereby the reasons why we can’t have a nice flow of legal alcohol, and drugs. Like who are they who have prevented us from having a normal life ? It’s the same old group of jail birds going and coming all the time. They drink, they have a few puffs, they then go looking to cause trouble, until the police grab them by the neck, judge throws the book at them, a little book! And the guards in the jails see the same old group of campers. They they stay under lock and keys, like animals really, and come back to the communities to start the cycle all over. And people wonder why the society is not like other Canadian societies.
