KRPF warns Nunavik elders to watch out for solicitors

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The Kativik Regional Police Force is cautioning residents of Nunavik who receive a telephone call asking for a monetary contribution from the National Association of Professional Police to think twice before agreeing to make any donation.

Many Nunavimmiut have been approached to send $40 to the Montreal-based organization. For their donation, contributors receive a card saying they are a “contributing supporter” of the group, as well as a copy — in French — of journalist Michel Auger’s book about biker gangs in Quebec.

KRPF Capt. Carl Pépin said older people could be confused by the request for cash and think they have to pay.

Pépin said the association, which purports to represent 17,000 police officers across Canada, has no connection the KRPF.
