Kuujjuaq’s airport will get a new cargo warehouse and an existing hangar bay will be extended for aircraft maintenance under a $14.5-million plan to improve service by Air Inuit announced by Transport Canada.

The new warehouse is expected to increase storage capacity, allowing for better food preservation. And extending the hangar for aircraft maintenance will improve the transportation corridors between Montreal and the whole of Nunavik, according to a Feb. 9 news release.

“We’re investing to reduce food losses caused by delays,” said Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez in the release.

“With stronger supply chains, we’re helping people get the goods they need, when they need them, at a reasonable price.”

A spokesperson for Air Inuit declined to say when work will start or how long it will take.

The project is being carried out through the federal National Trade Corridors Fun, which is focused on transportation and infrastructure projects in Canada’s North.

So… what you’re trying to tell me is that the brand-new cargo warehouse that was made in Kuujjuaq is being replaced? Renovated? Adding a second building?

    I don’t get it.

I believe this announcement is justifying hidden 🇨🇦 Taxes and most likely a political maneuver when there is Trillions to be distributed over 11 years. My $499.99 ticket is riddled with Nav Canada Fee, Security Fee, Airport Improvement Fee, QST, GST, Tax for $126 per ticket. Our Airport can’t even get water, and sewage service improvements….no justice in the system. The work is completed and that looks good to the books of “what happened to all that 💰💰💰💰💰”. Has the quality of your deliveries improved? Have our cargo rates been reduced? Have the prices in the stores improved? Air Ihimaha just pocketed 14.5 million yaaa for BOD’s only.

So Transport VCanada foots the bill for facilities that will serve only Canadian North a/e Air Inuit
Talk about a nice subsidy on top of all the free money they received over the years , especially during Covid .
Where I come from it is called corporate welfare at the highest level.
    Thanks

    were is that even exist?
for sure the price will hike up everywhere after this.
all the profits made should be used to reduce high cost leaving since they say it belongs to inuit.

You always hang out at cargo? Are they selling coffee and pastry there? Are there tables and chairs for people to sit and eat at cargo? Do you work at cargo that you so badly need water and sewage? Are you king of the toilet?

I used to work at the cargo in Kuujjuaq before they finished the new warehouse. We used to make do with what we had and I’ve heard that it is much better now. I just want to know exactly what they will do to improve it. Kind of feels like they’ll redo the hangar, and say thanks for the money, now our hangar AND warehouse are up to par.
