Eight-year-old Cowen Lingard made good on his pre-tournament confidence Friday, scoring two goals to lead the Kuujjuaq Green Arrows to the Ungava Cup futsal title.

The tournament kicked off in the primary division with six teams: the Kuujjuaq Reds, the Kuujjuaq Blues, the Kuujjuaq Black Stars, the Kuujjuaq Green Arrows, the Kuujjuaq Yellowstone and the Kuujjuaq Deep Purple.

Futsal is like soccer, but played indoors with five players per team.

The Green Arrows defeated Yellowstone in the playoffs to advance to the final, where they faced the Black Stars.

In the closing minutes of the final, Lingard scored the decisive second goal to secure a 2-1 victory for the Green Arrows, after an earlier goal by David Johannes of the Black Stars.

In the secondary division, students from Jaanimarik School participated in the tournament for the first time since it started in 2024.

The Kuujjuaq Greys captured the cup in that division with a 3-1 victory over the Kuujjuaq Yellows.
