Kuujjuaq woman dies after being hit by vehicle

Driver expected to appear in court Friday afternoon

A woman in Kuujjuaq is dead after she was struck by a vehicle early Friday morning.

The incident occurred at around 2 a.m. on the road that leads to the village’s new town neighbourhood, on Aqpik Road, said Capt. Patrice Abel, with Nunavik Police Service.

The vehicle hit the woman with “full force,” Abel said in French. The victim died at the scene.

The driver was arrested and brought into custody in an “advanced state of inebriation,” Abel said.

Police have not identified the driver and no charges have yet been laid. The driver is expected to appear in court Friday afternoon.

    It’s not safe to drive in kuujjuaq day or night. Night time til morning the roads are ruled by drunks, not a police to be seen. It’s not fit. If anyone walking, likely to get run over . New set of officials at the municipal office now, will things improve, NO. Over.
