Kuujjuaq woman dies in car crash

Jeannie Snowball, 23, died in a single-vehicle car accident in Kujjuaq last weekend. Two other Kuujjuaq women were also injured in the accident.

Brian Jones, chief of the Kativik Regional Police Force, said one woman has been medevaced to Montreal with suspected hip and leg fractures, while the other, who suffered less serious injuries, remains in Kuujjuaq.

Jones said the accident happened around 2:00 a.m. on June 15.

The vehicle, a Dodge Dakota 4×4, crashed into a ditch. Jones said police are still investigating, and that it’s not clear who was driving or how the vehicle ended up in the ditch.

Jones did say that alcohol consumption appears to be a factor in the tragedy.

Funeral services for Jeannie Snowball were held this week in Kuujjuaq.
