Kuujjuaq’s Junior May wins Ivakkak 2002

The 10 teams participating in Nunavik’s 2002 Ivakkak dog team race along the Ungava Bay pulled into the community of Quaqtaq this week.

Junior May of Kuujjuaq, who chalked up good times early in the race, came in first, with a total time of 30 hours, 32 minutes.

Close behind was Charlie Watt Jr., also of Kuujjuaq, with a time of 30 hours, 34 minutes. Taamusie Sivuaraapik of Puvirnituq, who won the 2001 Ivakkak race, came in third, completing the race in 35 hours.
