Labrador land-claim dispute
IQALUIT — Non-Inuit hunters in Labrador aren’t happy with the proposed boundaries of the Inuit land claim.
A group of hunters from Happy Valley-Goose Bay say the land-claim-in-principle would give Inuit control over some of the best hunting and fishing areas in the region.
Under the claim, Inuit would control 16,000 square kilometres of land and share control of 78,000 square kilometres with the Newfoundland government.
According to news reports on CBC Newfoundland and Labrador, the Labrador Inuit Association says non-Inuit hunters will still have access to hunting in the Lake Melville and Gossamers Bay regions.
