Language agreement signed
Officials have signed the 2002-3 Canada-Nunavut Cooperation Agreement that provides funding for French and Inuktitut promotion.
The agreement, signed Tuesday in Ottawa by Jack Anawak, Nunavut’s minister of culture, language, elders and youth, and Sheila Copps, federal minister of Canadian heritage, provides $2.5 million for language initiatives to help protect and promote French and Inuktitut in the territory.
Government and community French language initiatives will receive $1.45 million while community initiatives for Inuktitut will receive $1.1 million.
This is the fourth interim agreement signed between the two parties.
