The northern Finland region of Lapland and Murmansk, Russia, are boosting their joint security efforts in the shared northern region.
The two districts plan to improve cross-border cooperation with respect to police, customs, border control, and rescue services, and also intensify their cooperation in fighting drugs, violence and prostitution, which are all major problems in both border areas.
Murmansk is growing in importance, with new oil and natural gas pipelines planned for the region.
