Listeria concerns lead to several packaged salad recalls

Canadian Food Inspection Agency lists 22 Fresh Express products

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people to double check any Fresh Express brand fresh leafy greens before eating them because they might be contaminated with listeria.

Listeria might not look or smell bad but is still dangerous to eat, according to a news release from Nunavut’s Department of Health, sharing the recall. Short-term symptoms that include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, nausea and neck-stiffness.

“Pregnant women, elders, and people with weakened immune systems are especially at risk,” states the release. 

“Pregnant women may only experience mild flu-like symptoms, but the infection can lead to infection of the newborn and stillbirth. Severe cases of the infection can cause death.”

The list includes 22 products, with specific package sizes and UPC codes, but they all have the same lot codes, starting with “Z324” and ending with “Z350.”

Any affected product should be thrown out or returned to where it was purchased, and anybody who thinks they might have become sick from eating any of these products, should go to their local health centre, says the news release from the Health Department.
