Nunavut Premier John Main and Primer Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday ahead of a scheduled meeting of Canada’s premiers this week.
There aren’t many details about what was said or how long the meeting lasted, but they did discuss infrastructure, housing and nation-building.
Carney praised Main in a short scrum, broadcast by CPAC, before the meeting as “very experienced, very action-oriented and results oriented.”
Later, in a social media post, Carney named Arctic security as a shared priority between the territorial and federal governments.
“Looking forward to working together to build a stronger economy and safer communities for the people of Nunavut,” he said in the post.
Main, along with all eight of his cabinet ministers, are spending several days in Ottawa.
The Nunavut delegation was recognized Tuesday in the House of Commons by Speaker Francis Scarpaleggia.
Some of them also met with Nunavut Sen. Nancy Karetak-Lindell on Monday.
“During their time in Ottawa this week, they will be meeting with federal ministers and officials to further discuss these priorities to continue to improve policies that impact our communities,” Karetak-Lindell wrote Monday in a social media post.
Main wasn’t available Tuesday evening for comment on the trip.
