Adamie Delisle Alaku, Makivik Corp.’s vice-president for environment, wildlife and research, will serve another term on the executive of Nunavik’s birthright organization.
Delisle Alaku was elected by acclamation, Makivik said on Wednesday, Dec. 11, following the closure of nominations on Dec. 2 for its Jan. 16 election.
Delisle Alaku, 38,was first elected as Makivik’s vice-president in January 2014, and also re-elected by acclamation in 2017.
Originally from Salluit, Delisle Alaku studied science at Montreal’s Cégep Marie-Victorin, but returned home to work for the Raglan mine as a human resource coordinator and open pit general foreman.
He then worked for Makivik, where he represented the organization on behalf of Nunavik Inuit on Raglan’s and Nunavik Nickel’s regional committees.
Delisle Alaku is fluent in English, French and Inuktitut.
He is currently a member of the regional hunting, fishing and trapping coordinating committee and co-chair of the Ungava Peninsula Caribou Aboriginal Roundtable.

In July 2017, Delisle Alaku was appointed to a five-year term as a board member for Polar Knowledge Canada. He resigned from the board in March 2019.
Three candidates are vying for the position of Makivik treasurer:
- George Berthe, originally from Kuujjuaq, is a former Makivik Corp. secretary. Berthe was first elected to this position in April 1998 and went on to serve four terms, until 2010.
- Raymond Mickpegak is a former mayor of Kuujjuaraapik and the current Makivik board member for Kuujjuaraapik.
- Andy Pirti, the incumbent treasurer, was first elected as treasurer in 2014. Originally from Akulivik, Pirti started working for Makivik in 2005. He served as assistant to former treasurer Anthony Ittoshat until 2014, when he ran and was elected as treasurer.
The election date is set for Thursday, Jan. 16.
The polling stations will open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
Advance polls will take place on Friday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Correction
An earlier version of this story stated that Delisle Alaku was appointed to a four-year term as a board member for Polar Knowledge Canada. In fact, he was appointed to a five-year term, but he resigned from the board in March 2019.
He’s a step above most in makivik. Something like pita and Jobie, all for Inuit. He’s going to be around for a long time. Good person.
Andy yes, go away George berthe, no more bonus. As for mickpegak , who are you? This is how it will pan out. We’re tired of the last old group of bonus abusers. Self serving. Some are so neively brave to present their face once more. Defeat to you , leave us to progress.
Let’s them some importance. Let’s impeach them for stealing our money. Bonus was a steal from Inuit.!im confused as to why Inuit would want a bonus receipent back
Good news to see Adamie continue in Environment, Wildlife and Research. He has a good work ethic and is there for Nunavik. Positive, conscientious leader. Way to go!
