Nunavik’s Volunteer Income Tax Program, which is provided by Makivik Corp., has been suspended until March 30.

Makivik released a statement on Thursday, March 19, announcing the suspension, saying the risk to both the program’s agents and community members was too great during the current coronavirus pandemic.

The volunteer tax program provides assistance to Nunavik beneficiaries in filing their taxes. According to the release, the program helps with filing approximately 6,000 tax returns each year.

Whether the program needs to be further postponed will be determined depending on how the coronavirus situation unfolds.

Already, Revenu Quebec and the Canada Revenue Agency have extended their deadlines for filing personal income taxes from April to June.
