Makivik elects new board members
Last week, members of the Makivik Corporation living in five Nunavik communities chose new directors for their birthright organization’s board. In Akulivik, 115 of 223 eligible voters turned out to elect Peter Matte. Matte, who received 37 votes, won by one vote over Eli Allaluk.
In Kangiqsualujjuaq, 156 out of 348 eligible voters cast their ballots and elected Willie Annanack who received 79 votes, 31 votes more than the next closest candidate.
Although only 28 per cent of the 865 voters in Kuujjuaq voted, they elected Jobie Tukkiapik with 66 per cent of the total vote.
In Kuujjuaraapik, Raymond Mickpegak won 100 of the 144 votes cast. In Puvirnituq, only 22 per cent of turned out, electing Josie E. Tullauga, who received 65 of 144 votes cast.
