A 51-year-old man was arrested early Monday after RCMP in Cambridge Bay, more than 17 hours after he allegedly threatened residents of a home and barricaded himself inside.
Police received a call on Mar. 20 at approximately 12:15 p.m. about a man with a firearm making threats to two residents in a home, the RCMP said in a news release issued Monday afternoon.
Frontline members of the RCMP attempted to de-escalate the situation by encouraging the man to leave the home. Residents of the home got out safely. But once the man refused to leave, the RCMP’s critical incident program began, which meant that a containment team, crisis negotiators, and the Alberta emergency response team were called in.
The situation ended when the man was taken into custody at 5:34 a.m. on Monday.
The man is charged with two counts of pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm for dangerous purpose, assault and possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order.
He was taken into custody and his next court appearance is on Mar. 22, police said.

Oh darn, a fake “S” account.

I should have known; the letter “S” is so easy to copy, and there are so few other handles available.
,
Jealousy or laziness, fake “S”?
Was it the RCMP news release or the story about it that forgot there’s a two hour time difference between Iqaluit and Cambridge Bay?
There were 3 seperate incidents in a week’s time there. Shooting stabbing and hostage situation.
