A man whose body was found on Tuesday, May 14 outside an Ottawa social housing building was an Inuk, the Ottawa Police Service revealed yesterday.
After holding back his name until after notifying his next of kin, Ottawa police have now identified the man as Kenneth Ammaklak, 31.
Police are treating the death as suspicious and the OPS major crimes unit continues to investigate, an OPS update said.
Although police describe him as being from Ottawa, Ammaklak’s surname suggests his roots are in the North Baffin region of Nunavut.

Police said someone reported the death to them at 6:09 a.m. on May 14.
After responding to the call, police found Ammaklak’s body outside 251 Donald St., a high-rise building maintained by Ottawa Community Housing just east of the Vanier Parkway.
Police have not laid any charges or released any information on the cause of the man’s death.
