A former Iqaluit man faces child pornography charges following a joint investigation by Nunavut RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service.

The RCMP’s specialized investigative team had been investigating several incidents of internet child exploitation over three years, all believed to have occurred in Iqaluit, RCMP said in a press release Monday.

In that time, the suspect’s name surfaced in five separate investigations, police said.

At some point, RCMP investigators learned the suspect had relocated to Winnipeg. They worked with the Winnipeg police internet child exploitation unit to continue the investigation.

On Dec. 4, Robin Idlout, 27, was charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography, the release said.

Idlout was released from custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 13 in Winnipeg.
