Manon Jeannotte named lieutenant-governor of Quebec

Quebec, and by extension Nunavik, has a new lieutenant-governor.
Manon Jeannotte was appointed Thursday to the position by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Jeannotte is from the Nation Micmac de Gespeg. She has dedicated two decades of her life to helping Indigenous communities, according to a news release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The lieutenant-governor is the representative of the King of Canada in each province.
Jeannotte was recently director of the First Nations executive education at the École des hautes études commerciales of Montréal.
She recently earned recognition from the Quebec Council of Senior Federal Officials for her work on the history of Inuit and First Nations in Quebec.
Another ”FIRST NATIONS ” figure head like the one from Nunavik .
She was named the Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec.
You’d think that the NN editors would get that correct.
What is it with NN trying to treat Nunavik as a territory or province?
I was thinking the same thing yesterday afternoon. But it looks like they changed it after the fact.
Let’s do away with these representatives of the crown. The Governor General and Lieutenant-Governors are an anachronism that serve no practical purpose in our system
No, the GG does have a very important constitutional role, and has a very surprising amount of power. We have rarely had to use it and would hate to find ourselves in the same situation as Australia in the 70s when the GG dissolved the government.
Should our GG have that authority? Personally, I don’t believe so and would like to see a change. However, anyone who thinks that the GG doesn’t serve any practical purpose in our system doesn’t understand our system.
I like , what the French and the Russians did with their Royals .
