Gov. Gen. Mary Simon is scheduled to travel to Nunavut next week to help mark the territory’s 25th anniversary.
Simon has a list of priorities to discuss during the trip including climate change, mental heath, cultural preservation and education, according to a news release published Thursday by her office.
She is expected to arrive in Iqaluit on Monday with a welcoming ceremony attended by Nunavut Commissioner Eva Aariak and Premier P.J. Akeeagok. Then Simon will head off to a community celebration with Nunavummiut at the Aqsarniit hotel for the territory’s 25th anniversary.
Simon is scheduled to meet with students on Tuesday at the Qaqqalik School in Kimmirut and the Pirurvik Centre in Iqaluit.
The agenda for Simon on Wednesday includes discussions with culture-based learning and programming organizations, including Iqaluit’s community food centre. She will also meet with Iqaluit youth to talk about climate change, and end the day swapping stories over tea with elders.
Simon will wrap up her visit to the territory Thursday with a visit to a community gathering and the Inuksuit school in Qikiqtarjuaq.
Iqalummiut/Iqalungmiut should hop on her plane for some of that famous beef wellington and carpaccio. Don’t forget to grab your lemons and limes!
Oh oh taxpayers. Ms. Simon is on the move. Hang on to your wallets!

What award will she handout? So far, she handed one to an RCMP officer. Who probably no longer lives in nunavut.
