MLAs don pink for anti-bullying day

Some Nunavut MLAs wore pink shirts and other accessories in the legislative assembly Wednesday as part of a national anti-bullying initiative. Across Canada, Feb. 28 is Pink Shirt Day, when schools and other organizations raise awareness and call for an end to bullying. In her statement to colleagues Wednesday morning, Education Minister Pamela Gross said the Government of Nunavut is developing a new anti-bullying handbook to provide to schools for the next school year. They have no choice, like everyone of us, including you and I, they are forced to enact public rituals they had no hand in creating due to the social consequences of not performing.

Or, perhaps they care about the issue and want to show their support to Nunavut’s youth?

If they really cared about Nunavut’s youth they’d be raising hell about all the auditor general’s reports on the failures at Family Services and all the ways the GN loses track of children, puts them at risk and sometimes even kills them.

Sorry but our MLAs are fundamentally lazy ASF, don’t care about much beyond their own personal posturing and salaries and hence love playing dress-up and calling it “caring”.

          It’s all just theatre.

Sure, I bet they care about kids no less than you or I do.

But the question is not whether they care, it’s why are they all wearing pink?

If you are going to tell us wearing pink has a meaningful and positive impact on those kids, I’d like to ask what impact that is?

If they care so much, why doesn’t it show in their actions? Why roll out a database to track violent incidents in schools, then fail to follow up with any meaningful policies or plans to address them? I am thankful that MLA Maliki keeps questioning the Education Minister on this. Unfortunately nothing short of a tragedy, or class action lawsuit, will lead to changes. https://www.nunavutnews.com/news/bullying-remains-a-serious-problem-in-nunavut-schools-mla-says-7323428

So let me get this right. They wore pink to symbolize an anti-bullying message because if they didn’t they would be called out and socially shamed. Isn’t that bullying?

In our schools bullying is normal, it is to what degree it is there. I like the publicity on the problem, teachers need support as they are in the middle of prob. Less division please, it is only the so called elite class that are rewarded by that @#$t. Take care you all.

The MLA that talks about bullying but doesnt wear pink?…. he should focus on the lack of parenting skills the very foundation that is broken for those bullies. Where is his brian.
