MLAs to meet in Cambridge Bay

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

IQALUIT — Nunavut’s regular MLAs, sans ministers, will meet in Cambridge Bay next week to begin planning for the upcoming legislative assembly session.

MLAs arrive in Cambridge Bay on Tues. Jan. 11 for at least four days of meetings, said John Quirke, clerk of the legislative assembly.

With almost a full year of experience under their belts, the assembled MLAs will discuss plans to review the rules of the house.

MLAs will also plan other committee work for the upcoming session, take a look at a draft code of conduct for MLAs, and get briefed on the legislative assembly’s new state of the art audio-visual equipment, Quirke said.

They will also meet with Finance Minister Kelvin Ng to plan the upcoming budget schedule.

MLAs are scheduled to resume sitting Feb. 16 in Rankin Inlet.
