Netser urges outside meat plant study

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Patterk Netser, the new MLA for Nanulik, wants the GN to fund an independent feasibility study on a meat processing plant in Coral Harbour.

The GN commissioned its own study last year, but Netser said he wouldn’t trust a study commissioned by the GN.

“We all know that when the government hires a consultant, they … only write down what the government wants to hear,” he told the House last week.

Olayuk Akesuk, the minister of sustainable development, said that he had been in discussions with James Arvaluk, Netser’s predecessor, on the matter.

“We’re starting to complete the studies and I would like to work with the member to find out exactly what the community wants,” Akesuk said.

But Netser was quick to pick up on the bafflegab.

“I don’t seem to hear a response to my question,” he said.

Akesuk told Netser to direct his community to write a proposal and submit it through the hunters and trappers organization.
