From the Nunavut Brewing Co. to Astro Hill and the old graveyard, Iqalummiut gathered across town to observe the bangs and flashes of the New Year’s Eve fireworks.
Fireworks were launched from the deepsea port at midnight on Tuesday.
After the spectacle that lasted for more than a half-hour, about a dozen cars drove around the city in a row with their indicators on celebrating the coming of the new year with cheers and honking horns.
Not to be too “bah humbug” about it, but is it really necessary to drive around and honk your horn into the early hours of the morning? I was awoken from a dead sleep at 1:30 by the noise and it definitely put a sour start to my new year.
Maybe there’s a way to celebrate and show your enthusiasm for the new year that isn’t disruptive? Not everyone is up late and this kind of loud noise is hardest on the elderly, young children, people with ptsd and people with pets.
Many people go to bed after the fireworks are over, and the fireworks already are there to celebrate, why is it necessary to drive all over making so much noise?
that is really such a bah humbug thing to say!! its only once a year thing.
for once if you try next year to celebrate it, you will be addicted regardless who you are elderly, young children, people with ptsd and people with pets. its so awesome! 🙂
Snowmobile or vehicle parade after the fireworks is very popular in the north. You should see all the elderly, young children, and people with ptsd celebrating the new year. Try celebrating with everyone after the fireworks and you will understand. If you don’t like it, go spend new year somewhere it’s quiet.
Two words DD, ear plugs. But seriously, join the party, its only once a year 🙂
I slept threw the bash , like i do every year. don t make , a big deal over the rolling over of the odometer.
