New lots slated for Plateau

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Iqaluit city council has decided to proceed with phase two of its plateau subdivision this summer, adding 48 lots.

Of the 48 lots, 29 are for residential homes, 16 are for medium-density residential units, such as duplexes or multiplexes, one lot is for a residential cluster, one for commercial use and one for a playground.

As with last year, only seven of the lots will be required to meet the high environmental standards of R2000. That’s fewer than the council had originally hoped for.

The city’s director of lands and planning explained that the decision to keep only seven lots at the higher standard was made because the staff member who was trained to inspect the new lots has now left.
