New X-ray machine for Kuujjuaraapik
Quebec’s minister for health and social services, Philippe Couillard, and its minister responsible for northern Quebec, Pierre Corbeil, last week gave the health centre in Kuujjuaraapik the go-ahead to buy a digital x-ray machine worth $462,000.
Couillard said the centre’s conventional x-ray equipment would be replaced with a more advanced digital device.
“The quality of the images will be better, leading to more accurate diagnoses and, ultimately, more efficient treatment. In addition, examination times will be cut appreciably since digital images may be processed more quickly than film-based images. Finally, because digital imaging may be transmitted easily, this will also serve to improve services,” Couillard said.
The new x-ray machine will serve patients from Nunavik as well as from the James Bay Cree area.
