5. Naujaat is celebrating a clean energy milestone with the completion of a $19-million solar project in the hamlet. Why did the former Kivalliq Inuit Association director Helena Malliki push for solar panels in Naujaat?

A. Naujaat is located in a region that gets very little cloud cover.
B. Malliki is a self-described solar evangelist after installing panels on her own home.
C. Naujaat and Coral Harbour are not included in a proposal to connect several Kivalliq communities to the southern power grid through the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link. So Malliki felt Naujaat needed an option to reduce the hamlet’s reliance on diesel.

1. B — Udlu Hanson is named among the Women’s Executive Network’s 104 most powerful women in Canada. She is the first Inuk from Nunavut to receive the honour since 2010. Hanson said she’s proud to be on the list. She also said there are so many strong Inuit women that she believes they should have their own list.

2. C — Zacharias Kunuk’s current project is called Qirngaqtuq — Fierce Prayer. It’s an eight-part documentary that starts with Inuit life pre-contact and covers the arrival of whalers and Anglican missionaries.

3. A — The theme for the 2026 Kivalliq Trade Show was Naalagit, or Listen. It was broken out into three separate challenges to business leaders — listen to communities, to youth and to business.

4. A — Business Person of the Year at this year’s Nunavut Trade Show was Kirt Ejesiak, owner of Sedna ROV Services. He recently received federal funding for underwater drones that generate images of the seabed around Nunavut.
