NITC revamps scholarship system

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The Nunavut Implementation Training Committee has changed the way that it hands out scholarships to eligible Inuit students.

From now on, each eligible student will get a single payment of $1,750 at the beginning of each school year, rather than have to apply at the beginning of each semester.

Students will also have to maintain an average of at least 70 per cent while receiving the scholarship.

Lorne Kusugak, the NITC’s CEO, said in a press release that the organization will hand out scholarships to about 100 students next year, for a total of $175,000.
