Nunavut police say they continue to investigate the June death of an 11-year-old girl in Cambridge Bay, though police have yet to make any arrests in the case.

Early on June 20, the girl was found unresponsive in a ditch along Water Road, just outside of the Kitikmeot community.

The RCMP’s major crimes unit was called in to investigate the death, along with Nunavut’s coroner’s office.

But neither agency has released any details about the circumstances of the girl’s death, nor indicated if police have any suspects in the case.

An RCMP spokesperson said on Friday, July 5, that police would provide updates as they’re made available.

The girl has been identified as Emma Louise Amegainik Oyakyoak. A funeral service was planned for the girl July 5 at Cambridge Bay’s Luke Novoligak community hall.

“A sweet young girl gone way too soon,” read one of a number of condolence messages posted to a local Facebook page.
