No booze-fest at ITK bash?
I request you apologize to Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and Inuit for the misleading headline in last week’s edition of your paper, “ITK hosts Booze Fest.”
In the accompanying news story on page 24, there is nothing to support such a headline because there was no “booze-fest.”
Indeed, most of the people in your photographs are non-drinkers, as were a great many of the people at the event. What’s more, those who did drink, did so responsibly and paid for it themselves at a cash bar.
How do you justify describing an important anniversary and responsible social gathering by using the same language that your paper routinely uses to characterize raids on bootleggers or incidents involving police and community violence?
This front page cheap shot falls way below the expectations I have of Nunatsiaq News, and I believe the many Inuit who attended the gathering share this view.
