No more friendly reminders from NTPC
IQALUIT — The Northwest Territories Power Corporation will no longer send out “friendly reminders” to customers who are delinquent in paying their power bills, a spokesperson for the power company said this week.
Under the new billing system, delinquent customers will recieve 48- hour disconnect notices via registered mail, said Meeka Crawford, an NTPC spokesperson.
NTPC hopes that by stopping the “friendly reminder” notice it will force overdue account holders to pay up, Crawford said.
In the past, delinquent NTPC customers received a friendly reminder after their account payments werethree months overdue. Two and a half weeks later, a 48-hour disconnect notice would be sent to customers with outstanding balances.
Now, when a customer hasn’t paid an current bill, their next statement will say they are overdue and is subject to disconnection, Crawford said.
