No say in who is chosen as ITK president
Jose Kusugak is going to stay on as ITK president. You have to wonder and maybe its the way the reporter wrote it, but we don’t really have a say as to whether or not he should be voted in.
Don’t get me wrong. I think Jose Kusugak is an excellent individual for the job, but there are others out there who haven’t had the chance or the opportunity to do the job as well.
If Jose wasn’t running, would they have gotten the six VTAs and been able to live in which ever community they wanted to? Do we hate change? Are we afraid of it?
What I am worried about is the fact that we are still voting in individuals who have done the job over and over and over again.
What can we do?
We can contact our representative on that board and talk with them and discuss what our regions are up to. Or contact your local youth committee or your regional Inuit association. I hope that the young people out there are looking at our leaders as examples, one day we will have to take over those positions.
But I hope that we will have enough competent, confident, educated Inuit out there who can do the job and do it right. Is that not what the ITK board is saying non-verbally?
