Norwegians await whale of a meal

Norway’s annual commercial whale hunt is underway, with whale meat due to arrive in grocery stores within the week. This year’s quota is for 670 minke whales.
A total of 33 whaling boats are taking part in this year’s whale hunt.
Norway resumed commercial hunts of minke whales in 1993, arguing that North Atlantic stocks of these whales had recovered.
Norway estimates that there are more than 100,000 in the northeast Atlantic.
Norwegians mostly eat minke whales fried as steaks.
Whale season in Norway will last until August 31.
