A November trial is scheduled for a Kugluktuk man facing a long list of charges.
David Kuliktana originally faced 25 charges for incidents alleged to have occurred in Kugluktuk between Sept. 3 and Oct. 5, 2022.
Kuliktana was arrested Oct. 10, 2022, in a cabin outside of the community in a joint operation carried out by Alberta RCMP’s emergency response team and Nunavut RCMP’s critical incident team, assisted by Kugluktuk RCMP.
Kuliktana now faces 17 charges, according to the court docket. The charges include sexual assault, sexual interference, assault by choking, forcible confinement, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
In the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit on Monday, a two-day trial was scheduled for Nov. 12. Kuliktana, who is in jail in Iqaluit, did not take part in proceedings Monday.
Lawyer Nicole Camacho, who spoke on behalf of his attorney Matthew Shadley, said in court that Kuliktana will participate in court Tuesday by video link to choose a trial by judge alone.
