NTI plans harvesting shows to demonstrate Inuit hunting practices
Board approves $1.2M for series on polar bear

Some polar bears and caribou are about to break into show business, with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. preparing to develop two hunting-related TV shows.
The series were discussed Jan. 21 during the opening day of the Inuit organization’s two-day board of directors meeting at Iqaluit’s Aqsarniit Hotel and Conference Centre.
The board approved $1.2-million to fund the production of a polar bear harvesting series, and plans to put out a request for proposals later this year.
“[The polar bear harvest TV series] would be intended to be filmed over multiple seasons and then edited before it’s ready for broadcast,” said Kilikvak Kabloona, chief executive officer for NTI.
Both series are intended to lead audiences through aspects of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, also known as traditional Inuit knowledge and worldview, as it relates to hunting, preparation and utilization.
A request for proposals to produce a caribou harvesting program, which would consist of 10 episodes, each of them 30 minutes long, closes next month.
The request for the proposals for the caribou program is posted to NTI’s website and outlines what the organization envisions each episode to cover.
The first episode, for example, is an overview of the significance of caribou to Inuit, while other episodes cover the meat preparation process, caribou anatomy, and the craftsmanship of objects such as drums and clothes out of caribou skins.
There are no details available yet for when either show would go into production or eventually air.

They can share it Inuit that eat it, it’s a rare delicacy for some Inuit that love nanuviniq, like me. Go back to traditional ways, no selling of country food to other Inuit. This has to be turned around, selling is wrong for money.
Interview the so called hunters in Rankin that go up the road just to kill as many caribou possible to sell for big bucks to Baffinmiut or is that against NTI vision ?
Please don’t say that to Angunasuttiit, I would like to thank all Inuit hunters across Canada that go out and get food for many many people to eat, not a lot of hunters out there when there is a lot of mouths to feed! So I thank them with all my heart! May the good be with us!
Why not? Let NTI interview them and see how they sport hunt along road to mine and drop off at cargo few minutes later selling for $1000 sometime. Very lucrative. Let the viewer decide.
