NTI board meets in Kuugaruk
The board of directors of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. will be meeting in Kuugaruk from Sept. 10 to 12.
Board members will discuss current negotiations with the federal and territorial governments concerning updating the funding for the implementation of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
The GN is seeking an increase in funding to implement its Inuit employment initiative and to make Inuktitut the working language of government.
The board will also hear a report on the progress of revising the Wildlife Act. Consultations to create a made-in-Nunavut act began last March.
In addition, the board will examine a non-binding memorandum of understanding between NTI and Strongbow Resources to explore for minerals in the Kitikmeot region.
Other issues include the development of a Nunavut offshore fishery and the dog slaughter of the 1950s.
On the final day of the meeting, the board will take part in a workshop on social and cultural development.
