IQALUIT — Cambridge Bay has been selected as the host community for NTI’s election central on the evening of December 13.

“I believe Cambridge Bay to be the most appropriate place to tally up the numbers because it’s on the neutral grounds where none of the candidates are from the community,” NTI’s acting president, James Eetoolook, said this week in an NTI press release.

Five people are challenging incumbent president Jose Kusugak for NTI’s top job: Paul Quassa, Rebecca Mike, Ookalik Eegeesiak, Cathy Towtongie, and Leonard Natseck.

Three people are challenging incumbent Raymond Ningeocheak for the second vice president’s position: Paul Emingmak, Joseph Kaludjak, and Koonoo Tatuninee.

Nunavut land claim beneficiaries aged 16 and over are eligible to vote.

Voters who are unable to cast ballots on Dec. 13 may vote in an advance poll to be held Dec. 5 between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. loal time.
