NTI to hire Inuktitut speaking bosses
Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. is seeking a new chief operating officer to replace Richard Paton, who will be leaving NTI in mid-February, and a new chief executive officer to replace John Lamb, whose contract expires on July 31.
A news release from NTI said Paul Kaludjak, the president of NTI, plans to fill the CEO position with an Inuktitut-speaking beneficiary.
“NTI is deeply committed to hiring Inuit to work within our organization,” Kaludjak said. “Having Inuktitut-speakers in the CEO and COO positions is going to help us expand the use of Inuktitut among staff, and between staff and the board.”
The news release says Lamb, who intends to remain in Iqaluit, will “play a key role in the transition process.” The new COO will be hired after a new CEO is selected.
