Nunavik entrepreneur and aviator Johnny N. Adams is among 85 appointees to the Order of Canada announced Friday.

The appointment was announced on the website of Gov. Gen. Mary Simon. The date of the investiture ceremony at Rideau Hall where Simon, who is also from Nunavik, will preside is expected to be named later.

Adams, who was born in Kuujjuaq in 1960, is a professional pilot, aviation entrepreneur, businessman and executive chair of Canadian North, having served since 2019.

In 1987, he was elected as a hamlet councillor in Kuujjuaq and served as mayor between 1991 and 1997.

This isn’t his first government honour. Adams was appointed as a knight of the National Order of Quebec in 2006.

In Simon’s announcement Friday, Adams was named an Officer of the Order of Canada, which “recognizes achievement and merit of a high degree, especially service to Canada or to humanity at large.”

Other prominent appointees named Friday include actor Dan Levy and Toronto Raptors president Masai Michael Ujiri.
