Nunavik hoping to vaccinate all children 5-11 by Christmas

Teams planning to travel to communities and to visit some schools, spokesperson says

Nunavik’s Regional Board of Health and Social Services has set a goal to provide the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to every child aged five to 11 in the region by Christmas.

Josee Levesque, a spokesperson with the board, emailed some early information about Nunavik’s vaccine rollout plan to Nunatsiaq News Sunday evening.

“The objective is to have each Nunavimmiut aged 5 to 11 to receive their shot before Christmas time,” she said in the email.

Levesque says vaccination teams will travel to communities across the region and vaccine appointments will be available to children in some schools.

“As soon as possible, the vaccines will be made available in the communities and the population will be invited to go get their dose,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Nunavik continues to grapple with its worst COVID-19 outbreak since the beginning of the pandemic.

Of the region’s 379 new cases between Nov. 4 and 17, 80 per cent of people who have tested positive were “not adequately protected” against COVID-19, the board announced in its bi-weekly case breakdown last week. The majority of new cases in the region continue to be individuals over 18, with 209 of the cases from Nov. 4 to Nov. 17 in that age group.

One person is in hospital.

Canada’s first shipment of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for children arrived in Hamilton, Ont., on Sunday, procurement minister Filomena Tassi tweeted.

Canada is scheduled to receive a total of 2.9 million doses by the end of this week, enough for a first dose for every child aged five to 11, Tassi announced on Nov. 19.

Not anti-vax but look at the vaccination rates among adults in nunavik. No way they will get 100% of kids vaccinated in nunavik especially with the rampant belief of misinformation up there in some communities

Make sure that every child over 12 knows that they can get the vaccine without parental consent.

If your parents don’t care about your health then you need to look after yourself.

Just bad John K. My lord, people are losing their minds. Covid-19 does not pose a real risk to children. Here’s one of the leading studies on the topic: https://www.bbc.com/news/health-57766717.amp Given COVID’s mortality rate in children of 0.0002% I would say that parents are quite right to be hesitant, especially given the known risk of both myocarditis and pericarditis following vaccination: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/myocarditis.html

My two children are not in the 5-11 age group yet, but if they were, they wouldn’t be getting these vaccines. There are a lot more of us out there with this mindset than people realize. Do your due diligence before taking your child for this vaccine and keep in mind our government’s history of bad decisions that have negatively and permanently impacted people (think residential schools). This is the same government, but frankly much worse. None of us know the long term effects from vaccines, so lining up our children as a case study doesn’t seem right when COVID’s risk to to them is almost non-existent.

You know how many children have health problems in Nunavik? You know how many people have health problems know Nunavik? Due diligence? Of all the adults had gotten vaccinated like they were suppose to, it wouldn’t have to fall on the shoulders of our children to not only prevent covid 19 from shooting another wave in our region, but to threaten our loved ones. Do some research on the odds of the Long term affects of covid 19. People are dying from organ failure after having covid. One perfectly healthy person from sanikiluaq died after giving birth after she had covid due to kidney failure just last year.

Billions of doses administered world wide and you’re still “waiting”.

        Spare us.

I am double vaccinated, and double vaccinated are getting sick and dying from COVID. If I had known that quite a few numbers vaccinated people would get the virus despite being vaccinated I would not have gotten the vaccine. This is my experience and my opinion. That’s their bodies and they can decide if they want to get vaccinated or not based on the information out there.

Please realize that in 2020 the coronavirus was “new”, in that it had never been seen before, and there was no vaccine to fight the virus.
      .
It appears that two doses of vaccine are adequate protection against the original SARS COV-2 virus however the original virus has mutated and the more contagious and possibly virulent strain of the “Delta” variant is what is infecting people today. It would appear that a 3rd dose of the vaccine is required to better protect people against the Delta variant.
      .
The intent of the vaccine is to prepare the body to be able to fight the virus. What happens to an unvaccinated person is that the body’s defenses are not able to react in time to adequately attack and neutralize the virus and it gets into places such as the lungs where it can cause deadly consequences.
      .
A vaccinated person’s immune system starts to attack the virus sooner as it is prepared to recognize and neutralize the spike protein portion of the virus. It is thought that younger peoples’ immune system probably recognizes that virus faster and mounts a more effective defense against the virus, which is why children and younger adults are more often asymptomatic.
      .
We are still learning about the virus and how best to fight it. From studies in Israel and elsewhere it would appear that a 3rd dose is very beneficial in combating both the spread of the virus and it’s individual effects.
      .
The aim at this point is to keep people out of the hospital and out of the ICU, and a 3rd dose of the vaccine seems to do that best. Many provinces have already authorized a 3rd dose for anyone who wants one, and really provincial governments should be recommending a 3rd dose at this point.
      .
I really am quite amazed how people make getting a vaccine a “big” thing. I’ve been getting a yearly flu shot for the past 10 years, and have recently had boosters for many of the vaccines that you have in childhood. Booster shots are normal.
      .
It takes a few minutes to make an appointment, 5 minutes to check in at the vaccination site, less than a minute to get the vaccine itself, and then a 15 minute waiting period to see if there is any immediate allergic reactions. Is this so hard? Especially when it may save your life?

“It appears”. “Possibly”. “It would appear”. ” What happens to the unvaccinated person is”. “It is thought that”. “Probably”. “It would appear”. “Seems”. How is it that the vast majority are still asleep?. Wake up, Our rights are being stripped people are being segregated. Huge protests against this tyranny in Europe (B/c their grandparents been through this before) and the land down under. Yet we do not see it on television. Everything is being censored. Sudden deaths (“coincidences”) in healthy young people. Censored. Myocarditis heart inflammation. Real people with no agendas trying to share their stories being censored!. There is a narrative they are following and they show you only what they want you to see. What they want you to believe. There is nothing new under the sun. History is repeating itself. 1930’s Germany but on a global scale. Its all about control. The great deception. I’m tired of the fear porn. If you are scared of the virus, stay home. It sucks to be a Canadian right now and its not getting any better. Like, lets wake up. Journalism is mostly dead you have to seek out regular real life people with no agendas who are not following the script laid out for us. Please get this moderator!

Inuk, I use “possibly”, “it appears”, etc. because I am not an expert in the specific area being discussed, apparently you are? I do read extensively on the subject, and even some of the RCTs, but I mainly rely on the acknowledged experts for their opinion.
          .
I also realize that there are outliers who have different opinions, Dr. Scott Atlas, Sherri Tenpenny, etc. but I have learned that a medical degree is no barrier to quacks, frauds, and narcissists.
          .
Let’s look at your claim that our “rights” are being stripped from us. You cite that we are being segregated and censored. You do know that these rights are not absolute?
          .
If you have a deadly communicable disease you do not have the right to infect other people. If you were diagnosed with Ebola do you think that you would be walking around freely?
          .
All of the measures restricting movement and gathering sizes are temporary, and most have been removed. They are not permanent.
          .
Censorship, of what? Hate speech is already outlawed as are other comments that may be injurious to the public. Freedom of expression does have limits, and we are in a pandemic, or don’t you believe that almost 30,000 Canadians have died of Covid-19?
          .
Myocarditis is real, but rare from the vaccine. It is a lot less rare for people who are unvaccinated and contract Covid-19.
          .
Now let’s talk about Germany in the 1930s and 1940s since you brought it up. My father had a small part in ending the Nazi atrocities and he lost many dear friends while flying night bombing raids over Germany. As a young child I met a few of the people that survived the concentration camps. The one image that I carry with me to this day is of their number tattoos still clearly visible on their left arms.
          .
You have no idea how loathsome the Nazis were and you should be ashamed to equate common sense preventative measures in the face of a global pandemic to their atrocities.
          .
You talk about “the great deception”, and you are right. But stop for a moment and think, who is actually pushing a fear based agenda, who is gaining financially, who is seeking to create chaos and disorder?
          .
Anti-vaxxers, Covid-19 deniers, conspiracy theorists are far more fear based than the government who provides a free vaccine which will reduce illness or death in the face of the SARS COV-2 virus.
          .
Let me quote you, as an apparent expert, “Wake up”.

Stop getting your information off of Facebook! Their are antivaxxers spreading misinformation. Well, even the small pox vaccine only had a 95% effectiveness for 3 years, and had an incredibly low mutation rate…the covid vaccine has a case rate of less than 200 per 100,000 against the original strain making the vaccine 99.998% effective in the US per the CDC website and covid is a coronavirus giving it a high chance of mutation….no vaccine ever has had as high of an effective rate…do you even know what you’re talking about? We are catching up and telling people to not getting vaccinated is slowing us down! People would rather believe in a religion that has committed genocide on us that to believe doctors they rely on for any and all illnesses. I bet you they get sick with covid and they head to the hospital for help and not pray to god to get better. Use some logic. Think about the long term damage that covid leaves. It is killing people that no longer have covid.

Let me indicate something to you Ivviit. That’s a problem with many in the population of Nunavik: easily scared off into believing anything. You know if there was enough of the population with that gullibility, Nunavik is doomed into devastating beyond repair. You can’t reason with people like that. That’s our biggest set back right now, a gullible society.

As of November 22 Kuujjuaq is considered an Orange plus zone. What orange plus means exactly? Who knows.
Today we have 13 active Covid cases. More than 25 have recovered bringing the total to approximately 40 people who have or have had Covid since the October outbreak.
November 13 a young man with Covid committed suicide. November 19 a young man with a pre existing health issue who was medivac’d to Montreal with Covid passed away.
Health authorities have been telling us Covid is here to stay and we must learn to live with it.

Just get vaccinated. Simple as that !!!!! Stop with this BS. Now we have to deal with the Omnicrom variant and we still have people who don’t believe what we are facing.
Maybe we could ask non-believers to step in for our health workers so they can see for themselves what this is all about.

  7. Posted by The foolishness on

There are different degrees of opposition to the vaccine. Different reasons argued by the unvaccinated. It’s difficult to provide an answer to convince people to get vaccinated. One particular reason that’s circulating is that somehow, there’s a chip put in by the government, and therefore we shouldn’t be getting the vaccine. I can’t see how people could literally used this foolish excuse of a chip for the government to control the population. If the government was out to get a chip inside us, they would not do it this noisey way by creating all the trouble. The government would take a more casual way, hypothetically off course to get a chip inside its citizens without causing such noise. Its foolish to think about the vaccine that way. We may not live in an ideal world, but there’s no benefit in the government in wanting to control us that way, it’s just foolish to think so.
