Nunavik man charged with attempted murder

A Quaqtaq man has been charged with attempted murder, uttering threats, dangerous use of a motor vehicle and firearms offences.
On the evening of Nov. 26, while attending a collision between two snowmobiles, police heard gunshots nearby, according to the Kativik Regional Police Force.
Police said they located the suspect, who pointed his firearm at the officers. One of the officers then fired in the man’s direction and he fled the scene.
A perimeter was set up around the suspect’s home and remained in place through the night. The officers were supported by additional KRPF officers and the Sureté du Québec’s tactical unit.
The man surrendered the next morning, Nov. 27. He was arrested and brought to the police station.
Junior Tukkiapik, 27, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, attempted murder using a firearm, reckless intentional discharge of a firearm, endangering another person with the reckless intentional discharge of a firearm, and two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm.
The Crown has objected to the release of Tukkiapik, who remains in custody.
